Hotel search parameters:
There is a great variety of hotels near The Atatürk Cultural Centre (AKM), which will be our main campus for the symposium. It is located in the heart of Taksim, which has a major metro station. The hotels in Taksim, which is the name of the square, are sometimes labeled as the hotels of the Beyoglu area (the name of the city district).
The area sometimes has different search labels for different search websites:
Expedia:
They use the labels Taksim Square, Beyoglu, Istiklal Avenue and Galata Tower. All of these are within walking distance to the AKM. Istiklal Avenue is the street leading from the AKM towards Galata Tower, and for the first half of this street, we will in fact be using many venues on that street for masterclasses, sessions and afternoon concerts.
Any of the more touristy places that Expedia has as search options (based in the historical heart of the city), are also an option, but you would need to use first an overground metro / tram, and then change over to a funicular, in both cases you will exit at the end station, to reach Taksim Square, therefore AKM. Those are also options, and definitely fun, but to save time I would recommend you use the first four search options.
Trivago:
This offers a greater choice of district or neighborhood names, mainly because it uses so many search engines. In addition to the ones listed above, you could also search Tünel (same area as Sishane or Galata, just different streets) or you could search further out such as Besiktas (short taxi or bus ride) or Osmanbey, Sisli, Mecediyekoy. These are possibly walking distance to the AKM (especially Osmanbey, as some of their hotels are pretty close to Taksim) or you could take a short underground metro from either Sisli, Mecidiyeköy or Levent, no longer than 10 minutes, which will land you straight under the AKM.
